You do not need to buy another car to ask JTK about selling yours. An outright sale enquiry is for a car you want to offer to the dealership on its own. A trade-in is part of a conversation about buying a replacement vehicle.
Both start with an accurate description of your current car. The next step is an assessment and discussion with the team. The website does not produce an instant purchase offer from a registration alone.
Choose the route that fits your plans
If you are selling without buying from JTK, use Sell your car. The form asks about your car and contact details without requiring you to select a vehicle from stock. This can suit a change in circumstances, reducing the number of cars you need or simply deciding to sell before choosing what comes next.
If you are interested in a JTK car, open its stock listing and include a trade-in in the vehicle enquiry. That keeps the replacement car and your current vehicle together so the team understands the proposed change.
You can also ask about a trade-in before settling on a replacement. Say what you have in mind and whether you have a budget or type of car you would like to discuss. An enquiry starts a conversation; it does not oblige you or JTK to proceed.
Have the useful details ready
Start with the registration and current mileage. Describe the vehicle’s condition and mention known faults, warning lights, damage or work that is due. A clear account is more useful for an assessment than a general description such as “good for its age”.
Gather service records, recent repair invoices and details of any major maintenance. If you have gaps in the history, say so. Do not guess at a timing belt change or other job because you think it was probably done before you owned the car.
Tell the team about the keys, documents and anything else relevant to the vehicle. Ask what they would like to see if a visit is arranged. You do not need to send sensitive identity or finance documents through the initial website form.
What registration lookup does
The lookup helps identify the vehicle and populate its specifications. Review the returned details and confirm that the car belongs to you. If lookup is unavailable, or you choose to enter the details yourself, the form provides a manual route for the team to check later.
A lookup does not verify ownership, condition, service history or outstanding finance. It also does not determine what JTK will offer. Those points require information beyond the model and year associated with a registration.
If the returned description differs from your car, do not confirm information you know to be wrong. Enter the details manually or explain the issue to the team. This keeps an identification problem from becoming an inaccurate enquiry record.
Mention outstanding finance early
If finance remains on the car, say so before an offer or trade-in arrangement is finalised. The settlement position affects the transaction. Do not assume the car’s assessed value is all available towards your next purchase.
The CCPC’s car finance guidance explains different finance arrangements and ownership considerations. Contact your finance provider for the information that applies to your own agreement, then discuss the position with JTK.
Keep the lender’s settlement figure, the dealer’s assessment and any purchase price distinct when reviewing the numbers. If something is unclear, ask for it to be explained before accepting an arrangement or making a payment.
From enquiry to an agreed next step
JTK reviews your enquiry and contacts you about the car. The team may need more details or an inspection before discussing an offer. Condition, history, specification and the proposed transaction all matter; no website message guarantees that every vehicle will be purchased.
Before handing over a car, confirm the agreed price, payment and collection arrangements, documents required and any finance settlement process. Keep a record of what has been agreed. Do not treat the enquiry confirmation email as a sale contract or permission to leave the car at a branch.
Use the dedicated sale enquiry if you are ready to provide the details. If you are still weighing up a change, contact the team and explain what you are considering.
Talk through your own vehicle.
General guidance is a starting point. Our Dungarvan and Lismore teams can discuss the details that apply to your car.
