Car & van servicing

Keep up with the maintenance your car or van needs. Speak to the workshop about its service history, mileage and the right work for your next visit.

A service that suits your vehicle.

The service your vehicle needs depends on its maintenance schedule and what has already been done. JTK offers car and van servicing, with checks and replacement items matched to the vehicle.

  • Engine oil and filter changes.
  • Brake, tyre and battery condition checks.
  • Fluid levels, lights and indicators.
  • Air and cabin filters, with exhaust checks where required.

What is due at your next service?

A service reminder tells you that maintenance is due, but it does not always tell the whole story. Your mileage, engine, previous service work and the time since the last visit all help establish which filters, fluids and checks are needed. Bring any service records you have so the workshop can check what has already been replaced.

A car used mainly for short trips and a van covering longer daily journeys can have different maintenance needs. Describe how you use the vehicle when you enquire. If there is a warning light, an unusual noise or a starting problem, mention it separately so it can be included in the discussion.

Planning the work and the cost

Send your registration and mileage when asking about a price. A useful quote needs to relate to your actual vehicle and the agreed work, including the specification of any oil, filters or other parts. Ask what is included and whether any separately scheduled items are due.

Choose a preferred day in the request form and tell us if you need the vehicle for work. The branch will contact you about availability and the time needed; submitting a preferred day does not reserve a slot.

Servicing a car used for short trips

A car that mainly does school runs or short journeys can still need maintenance even when its annual mileage is low. Service schedules usually consider time as well as distance. Start with the schedule for your engine, rather than waiting for a mileage figure you may not reach for several years.

Tell the workshop about your usual driving and any recent change in oil use, starting or fuel consumption. A routine service is a useful time to raise these points, but an active warning light or running fault may need a separate diagnostic assessment. Mention it when enquiring so the scope can be discussed.

Keep the service record useful

Bring the previous invoice as well as the service book if you have both. An invoice can show which filters, fluids and other items were changed, helping avoid uncertainty about work that may already have been completed. If the history is incomplete, say so; the workshop can discuss what can be established.

For a work van, include its typical load, usage and any dates when you need it available. Ask which maintenance items are included in the quote and which are recommendations for a later visit. Keep the finished invoice with the vehicle records so the next service starts with a clearer picture.

Useful details to have ready.

Have your registration and current mileage ready. A service book or record of the last service helps the workshop understand what is due.

  • Your registration, make and model.
  • Your mileage and the work you’d like to discuss.
  • Any warning lights, noises or changes you’ve noticed.
  • Your preferred day and a number to reach you on.

The branch will confirm the work and a suitable time with you. Sending a request does not book a workshop slot.

A few useful answers.

How often should I service my car?

Use the manufacturer's schedule for your particular vehicle. Maintenance can be due by time, mileage or a dashboard service indicator, and some items have their own intervals. If the history is incomplete, give the workshop your registration and what you know about the last service.

Can you service a van as well as a car?

Yes, JTK offers car and van servicing. Include the registration, mileage and any particular work you need when contacting the branch so the team can discuss the vehicle and arrange a suitable visit.

Is an NCT the same as a service?

No. The NCT assesses roadworthiness at the time of the test; it does not replace routine maintenance. You can discuss servicing and pre-test repairs with JTK, while the test itself is booked with NCTS.
