NCT & CVRT preparation

Make sense of the work before the test.

Our preparation services cover the key areas of the vehicle inspected during a test, including brakes, lights, tyres, steering and exhaust systems. If you already have a test report, use it to discuss the specific repair items with the team.

Before a test or after a failed result

If a test is coming up, tell us the date and any issues you already know about. A pre-test inspection can help you discuss work that needs attention and allow time for repairs. It cannot guarantee the result of the official test.

If the vehicle has already failed, bring the complete report. The item descriptions and any retest deadline help the workshop understand what needs to be addressed. Mention other symptoms as well; a test report is not a full service history or a diagnosis of every running problem.

Book the test with the test operator

JTK provides preparation and repair work. NCT appointments are arranged through NCTS, and commercial vehicle tests through an authorised CVRT test centre. A workshop appointment with JTK does not book either official test.

Check the test operator's current preparation instructions before your appointment, including the documents and vehicle access it requires. Tell the workshop your retest deadline when enquiring so availability can be discussed in that context.

Bring the complete test report

If the vehicle has failed, bring every page of the report and highlight anything you would like explained. The item description, location and recorded result help the workshop understand what the examiner found. A phone photograph is useful when asking about an appointment, but keep the original report for the visit.

Include the test date and any retest deadline shown by the operator. Ask about repair availability before booking the return inspection. Some work needs parts or further assessment; having a deadline does not establish how quickly the repair can be completed.

Preparation, maintenance and the official test

A pre-test check looks at the vehicle ahead of its official inspection. A routine service follows maintenance needs. These overlap in some areas, but one should not be assumed to include the other. When enquiring, say whether you need preparation, routine servicing, repairs from a report or a combination.

JTK provides preparation and repair services. Book the official NCT through NCTS, or the CVRT through an authorised test operator. A preparation appointment cannot guarantee a pass or replace the examiner’s decision. Check the current operator instructions for documents, presentation and retest arrangements.
