Choosing a replacement tyre

The size on the tyre's sidewall is a useful starting point, along with your registration. The load and speed ratings also need to suit the vehicle. Tell the team whether you need one damaged tyre assessed or are considering replacement tyres for an axle or the whole vehicle.

Availability and price depend on the size and specification. If you are comparing options, ask what the quoted price includes, such as fitting and balancing, and discuss the type of driving you do. Do not assume a tyre is suitable from its diameter alone.

Uneven wear or vibration needs a closer look

A tyre losing pressure, a vibration or uneven tread wear can need more than a replacement tyre. Describe when the problem happens so the workshop can discuss whether balancing, alignment or an inspection of related components is appropriate.

Planning a visit to the Lismore tyre centre

If you can read it safely, send the tyre size from the sidewall with your registration. A vehicle model can have several wheel options, so the size fitted to the car is useful when checking a replacement. Mention any run-flat marking and whether you need one tyre or are considering a set.

A puncture and a slow leak need assessment

Tell the team how quickly pressure falls and whether the tyre has been driven while flat or severely underinflated. Some damage cannot be repaired safely. The location of the damage and the tyre’s internal condition matter, so a repair cannot be confirmed from a description alone.

If the steering pulls, the car vibrates or one edge of a tyre wears faster, mention that separately. Replacing a worn tyre does not establish why it wore unevenly. Balancing, alignment and suspension checks address different issues, and the workshop can discuss the appropriate starting point.
